Qarth

I won’t even bother repeating my feelings about how miscast Nonso Anozie is for the slight and effeminate character of Xaro of the pale “Milk Men” of Qarth, what he says in the interview is bad enough. He says he is “the Prince of Qarth”. Uh-huh. So, their ruler or something? Sigh.

I haven’t been following the casting as closely this season. Mostly because they did a mostly fine job with season one so I see no reason to nitpick before I see the performances.

I’m confused here. I thought Xaro WAS one of the Pureblood council that rules Qarth? He’s definitely one of the Thirteen. So in any case, he is powerful. I don’t think calling him a ruler is really so off base.

I’m also confused about calling him effeminate. I think the Dothraki feel the way the Mongolians maybe felt about the Chinese. Like, “those losers wear silk. They must be easy to kill.” I mean, doesn’t Dany just think that because all the Quartheen are very posh and they cry a lot. It’s just a show though. I don’t think Xaro is weak in anyway (and I hesitate to jump to the conclusion that is what she is saying with “effeminate”). All I know for certain is that he has blue lips, which will certainly be done with makeup since I don’t know anyone who does. And that he is described as “bald” and has a nose ring. I feel confident that this actor meet those requirements.

Further, Xaro is a character who initially woos Dany and then turns into a bad guy in the later books. I don’t think you want someone who is not at all imposing to be either.

Am I thinking too much about this?
